A few weeks ago, a few of our littlest helpers spent a rainy Friday morning helping prepare 30 bag lunches for our Community Kitchen guests. Jamie (6), Victoria (5), Vivian (3), Kiran (7) and Mira (4), called upon their inner artists and decorated lunch bags with special, heartfelt messages and pictures. Lunch included either a chicken/cheese, turkey/cheese or peanut butter/jelly sandwich, a mandarin, a bag of pretzels, a granola bar, packets of mustard and mayonnaise and a bottled water. Once the lunches were ready, the kids (and their moms!) delivered them to the Shelter. It was a good opportunity to share the importance of caring for our neighbors in need, and that even our youngest friends can help lend a hand. Our most sincere thanks to our little helpers!

We continue to see a large number of guests for lunch and dinner in our Community Kitchen. Sometimes, this is the only meal a guest will eat that day. We are in great need of prepared meals to feed 50 – lunch and dinner – and rely on volunteers to prepare these meals 365 days a year. Please contact Volunteer Program Manager Donna Schmidt at (203) 292-5588 ×207 or dschmidt@operationhopect.org to help. Thank you for your generosity and help!
